Data Warehouse

With modern cloud and on-prem solutions a Data Warehouse is no longer just a tool for big corporations; it’s an asset that adds value to businesses of all sizes.

Why do I need a Data Warehouse?

A Data Warehouse contains data from several departments, from the ERP to Production Allocation, SCADA to Land.  Making data from multidisciplinary systems available in a single source allows for insights and automation not otherwise possible and prevents duplicated effort connecting to those sources.  Stop emailing spreadsheets that are out of date the moment you hit send and escape from single-use analyses by hosting your data on secure, inexpensive, and reliable Cloud-based platforms.

How does a Data Warehouse pay for itself?

A data warehouse empowers your staff to make better decisions faster by providing a single source of truth and automated data refresh.  Save staff time and respond more quickly and confidently to questions about your business by leveraging accurate, evergreen data that’s easy and secure to access.  Enable quicker, automated QC of partner data to make sure you’re being paid what you’re owed and included on new wells you have an interest in.

Why choose Velocity Insight for your Data Warehouse project?

Our staff have decades of experience working for Oil & Gas Operators and Investors just like you.  We understand what data is important and why, and we’ve set up dozens of Data Warehouses for our clients over the years.  We’ve seen what can go wrong and how to do things right, and we can get a better product in your hands faster than trying to build a team in-house.  Once we’re done, you own the work we’ve completed – we don’t sell software or subscriptions.

What Cloud Platform do we recommend?

Our most common recommendation is Azure SQL with Azure Data Factory, primarily due to cost and flexible integration with most data sources.  But we work across all major platforms and can meet clients where they are or make recommendations based on your use case:

  • Azure SQL – The most cost-effective choice, typically under $100/month long term. Best for structured data, standard reporting, and seamless Power BI integration.
  • Databricks – Best for large-scale data processing and advanced analytics like Machine Learning.  Most E&P companies never rise to the volume of data that makes Databricks a compelling choice.
  • Snowflake – Easier for non-engineers with a more intuitive front end.  Scales compute on demand and supports high-concurrency parallel workloads at a higher price point than comparable SQL options.
  • Microsoft Fabric – Promising all-in-one platform with a strong front end, but still maturing on data connectivity compared to Azure Data Factory.

What technologies do we work with?

Data sources for Oil & Gas software run the gamut, from ad hoc emails with attached .CSV files to Snowflake endpoints and everywhere in between.  How can we help you connect to your data?

Data Source Formats

  • SQL (Quorum, P2, many others)
  • .accdb (ARIES)
  • SFTP (EnergyLink, PDS)
  • API (ComboCurve, OpenInvoice, zdSCADA, iWell)
  • Snowflake (WellView, ProdView, S&P Enerdeq)
  • Email (non-op partners)
  • ODBC (Petroware)

Successful Software Integrations

  • ERP’s including Quorum On Demand Accounting, Bolo, Excalibur, OGsql, Enertia, Petroware, SAP, and more
  • Reserves including ARIES (both SQL and Access), ComboCurve, MOSAIC, & Val Nav
  • Production including ODP, Merrick, Prodview, PRAMS, and more
  • Others include WellView, Open Invoice, On Demand Land, SCADA, ENVERUS Prism and EnergyLink, Petrosight, On Demand Well Operations, and more!

We’ve made connections to dozens of pieces of software like these and bring real world experience to your Data Warehouse implementation.  We have the trophies (and scars) from lessons learned and best practices from dozens of companies we can bring to bear on your project.
