What Cloud Platform do we recommend?
Our most common recommendation is using Azure’s cloud-based SQL server for data storage and Azure Data Factory for data pipelines and automation. Monthly costs for hosted data storage and refresh typically come in at less than $100/mo, these tools play well with the rest of the Microsoft tech stack, security is handled with end-to-end encryption and multi-factor authentication, and SQL interface is well documented and understood. Fabric is still missing tools for data connectivity that Azure Data Factory can handle, and Snowflake is overkill for the volumes of data found at a typical E&P Company. Both provide a nicer front-end interface, but that doesn’t help Spotfire or Power BI users and costs are much higher.
